Sinking:

In May 1877 the Twilight was anchored in a place now known as Twilight Cove while discharging a cargo of wire and insulators for the overland telegraph line. About midnight on 24 May the Twilight was driven ashore in a severe gale and became a total wreck. The crew got ashore safely and walked about 275 km overland to the Israelite Bay telegraph station to report the loss. The cargo was considered impossible to recover. In around 1900 a Mr Dunn broke up part of the wreck to obtain timber to line a well.
