The Toern was built in Oslo and used in Norwegian whaling operations. From 1942 to 1946 it was used by the Royal Navy as a minesweeper. The Toern was bought by the Cheynes Beach Whaling Company and it arrived in Albany in 1952. It was the company’s first whalechaser and served until 1961.
